Center for Childhood Safety and Bergstrom to Host Community Car Seat Check

March 22, 2018

Center for Childhood Safety (CCS) will host a free community car seat check event on Wednesday, April 4 from 4-6 p.m. at Bergstrom Buick GMC of Green Bay (301 N. Taylor St., Green Bay, WI 54303).

Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians, who’ve completed coursework as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will work with parents and caregivers to identify and correct potential car seat installation problems while giving hands-on education on safety best practices.

“Installing a car seat should be simple, but with 300 makes and models of car seats on the market and more than 100 different seat belt configurations, installing a seat correctly can be a challenge,” says Kimberly Hess, Executive Director, Center for Childhood Safety. “No parent wants to get it wrong when it comes to their child’s safety.”

Car crashes are a leading killer of children, and the latest research from the U.S. Department of Transportation and NHTSA shows that nearly two out of three of car seats are misused. Using age- and size-appropriate car seats and installing them correctly are the best ways to reduce these deaths.
