Safe Routes to School

Road traffic crashes ranks among the top 4 cause of death for all children over 5 and the typical crash occurs within a single mile of home.

With so many students walking to and from school each day, it’s essential that children understand the rules of the road and how to stay safe along the way. We’re proud to team up with local schools and community leaders to share these important, life-saving lessons with kids.
Safe Routes to School is a fun and engaging program that teaches children how to safely walk and bike to school. The Center for Childhood Safety brings the Safe Routes to School program to more than 20 schools each year, reaching over 1,000 third graders with engaging safety education and a free bike helmet. Through interactive lessons, safety demonstrations, and hands-on activities, students learn vital skills such as traffic awareness, following pedestrian rules, and practicing proper bike safety.
The program not only empowers kids with the knowledge and confidence to make safe choices on their way to and from school, but also fosters independence, healthy habits, and an appreciation for active transportation. By helping children become smart and responsible travelers, Safe Routes to School builds a foundation for lifelong safety and supports stronger, more connected communities.
